 Early Construction

Mehrangarh Fort was founded by Rao Jodha, the 15th Rathore ruler, in 1459 AD,Jodha established the fort on a rocky hill known as Bhakurcheeria.

Expansion

Over the centuries, Mehrangarh Fort was expanded and fortified  by successive rulers of the Rathore dynasty.

Architecture and Design

The fort is renowned for its massive walls, some of which rise to heights of up to 118 feet and are 69 feet wide.

Strategic Importance

The fort's high walls and elevated position made it nearly impregnable, helping to protect the region from invasions and attack.

Cultural and Religious 

Mehrangarh Fort has always been a centre of cultural and religious activities, the fort houses several temples, including the Chamunda Mataji Temple.

Invasion by  Mughal Emperor

In 1678, Mehrangarh Fort was briefly captured by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb after the death of Maharaja Jaswant Singh.

Modern Era and Preservation

The fort was opened to the public by Maharaja Gaj Singh II, who initiated efforts to preserve the historical and architectural legacy of Mehrangarh.
