The UPSC has extended the deadline for filling out the NDA 1 2025 application form until January 1, 2025. The application process began on December 11, 2024, along with the official notification, which includes details about eligibility, the exam pattern, and the syllabus. The NDA 1 2025 exam is scheduled for April 13, 2025. Candidates who have completed or are appearing for their Class 12 exams are eligible to apply.

The NDA 2 2025 notification will be released on May 28, 2025, with the application window open from May 28 to June 17, 2025. The NDA 2 exam will take place on September 14, 2025.

NDA

The NDA exam is conducted to select candidates for admission into the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Indian Naval Academy (INA).

What is an NDA Exam?

UPSC conducts the NDA exam for admission of candidates in the defence forces of India, including the Army, Air Force, and Navy. It is a national-level defence examination conducted twice a year by UPSC. The first part of the exam is NDA 1, where the candidates have to qualify for a written test. The second part of the exam is the Interview, where candidates must prepare for a personality test and interview conducted by the SSB (Service Selection Board).

  • The UPSC NDA exam is held twice a year and consists of two selection processes: a written exam and an SSB interview.
  • Candidates who pass both rounds and make the merit list are assigned to the National Defence Academy for training.
  • Candidates are not considered commissioned officers until they have completed the three-year training program.

NDA 2025 Exam Highlights

The NDA exam is one of the most popular defence exams in India, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Candidates who have completed or are appearing for their Class 12 exams can apply. The exam is held twice a year (April & September) and consists of a written test followed by an SSB interview. NDA 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the NDA Exam, interested candidates should examine the qualifying requirements. The eligibility conditions are essential to the exam; otherwise, the candidate’s application will be rejected. The NDA Eligibility Criteria are described in depth below.

NDA Eligibility Criteria: Nationality

To be eligible for the NDA exam, candidates must be one of the following:

  • Indian National
  • A Nepalese or Bhutanese subject
  • A Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before 01 January 1962, intending to remain permanently.
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia, or Vietnam, to settle permanently in India.
  • Foreign nationals (except Gorkhas) will be required to produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit

  • NDA 1: Candidates (both male and female) must be born between July 2, 2005, and July 1, 2008.
  • NDA 2: Candidates (both male and female) must be born between January 2, 2005, and January 1, 2008.

Educational Qualification

  • Army Wing (NDA):
    • Must have passed Class 12/HSC or an equivalent exam from a recognized board or university.
  • Air Force, Navy & Naval Academy (NDA):
    • Must have passed Class 12/HSC with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognized board.

Eligibility Criteria: Sex and Marital Status

  • Both male and female candidates must be single during the selection process and until the program is completed.
  • An applicant will not be chosen if they marry before completing training.
  • If a candidate marries while undergoing training, they will be fired and held accountable for the government’s entire training expense.

NDA Application Form 2025

The NDA 1 application form 2025 was released on December 11, 2024, with the last date for submission on January 1, 2025. The NDA 2 application form will be available from May 28, 2025, and can be submitted until June 17, 2025.

  • Visit the official UPSC website
  • Register online by completing Part I
  • Login using the registration number to fill Part II
  • Complete Part II with all necessary details
  • Pay the application fee
  • Take a printout of the application

NDA 2025 Application Fee Details

Candidates applying for the NDA 2025 exam must pay an application fee of ₹100, except for SC/ST candidates, female candidates, and Wards of JCOs/NCOs/ORs, who are exempted from payment. The fee can be paid through multiple online and offline methods.

Payment Methods

  • Online: Debit/Credit Card (Visa/Master/RuPay), UPI, or Internet Banking.
  • Offline: Cash deposit at any SBI branch using a system-generated Pay-in-Slip (available until December 30, 2024).

Important Notes

  • Payments made through any other mode will not be accepted.
  • Fee once paid is non-refundable and cannot be used for any other exam.
  • Candidates whose payment details are not received by the bank will have their applications rejected but can provide proof within 10 days for reconsideration.
  • OBC candidates are not exempted and must pay the full fee.
  • Wards of JCOs/NCOs/ORs studying in Military Schools/Sainik Schools can claim a fee exemption by providing a certificate from their school principal at the SSB interview.

NDA 2025 Application Withdrawal

The Commission will provide a withdrawal option to candidates who do not wish to take the Examination. Candidates must provide the details of the registered application with the registration ID that was finally completed and submitted. There is no way to withdraw any incomplete applications.

If candidates wish to withdraw because they do not wish to take the exam, they must follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Visit the official website of the NDA at upsconline.nic.in.
  2. To withdraw the application form, click on the application.
  3. An OTP will be sent to the applicant’s registered email and mobile phone numbers.
  4. After validating the OTP, the request for application withdrawal will be processed.

NDA Exam Admit Card 2025

NDA 1 Admit card to be released. To appear for the written test, candidates should possess a valid admit card. Candidates cannot sit in the examination hall without an admit card. The conducting body has the Admit Card on the official website three weeks before the exam. Candidates can access their Admit Card by entering their Registration ID or Roll Number, which was generated during registration. The following details are mentioned on the admit card:

How to Download Admit Card 2025?

To download, follow the steps given below:

  • Go to the official website of UPSC.
  • Click on the ”Admit Card” section or direct link in ”What’s New.” 
  • Enter the registration/ roll number with the password and captcha code.
  • Click on submit. The admit card can be seen on the screen.
  • Download the admit card and take a printout for future reference.

NDA Exam Pattern 2025

The NDA 2025 selection process consists of a written exam followed by an SSB interview. The written exam includes two papers: Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT), with a total of 900 marks. Candidates must score at least 25% in each section to qualify for the next stage.

The SSB Interview is conducted in two stages:

  • Stage 1: Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP&DT).
  • Stage 2: Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks, Psychology Tests, and Conference.

The SSB interview also carries 900 marks, making the total score 1800 marks.

NDA Salary 2025

During the National Defense Academy coaching period, the aspirants can get a certain amount of remuneration. The Joint Training Team welcomes cadets to the JTT. The advantages of pay and allowances begin during the training period when cadets are in IMA.

Following the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission, there have been changes in the pay scale and other aspects of salary for Indian Army officers. Candidates chosen through the exam will be paid a stipend of INR. 56100/- per month (at pay matrix level 10) for the first three years of training. Following successful training, the officer’s pay in the pay matrix will be fixed in the first Cell of Level 10. For more knowledge, check the following table:

Allowances for Flying

Army Aviators (Pilots) in the Army Aviation Corps are entitled to a monthly flying allowance of Rs.25 000/-.

Education Allowance for Children (CEA)

A monthly allowance of Rs.2250/- is provided for the two oldest children still alive. Children from Nursery to Class 12 are eligible for the Children’s Education Allowance.

Subsidy for Hostels

The two oldest children alive receive a monthly allowance of Rs.6750/- each. From Nursery to Class 12, assistance is available.

Ans. NDA stands for National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) holds the NDA exam twice a year for admission to the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy courses. The Supreme Court of India also allowed women candidates to join the NDA.

Which stream is best for the NDA exam after the 10th?

Ans. According to the most recent NDA Examination eligibility criteria, students must have a minimum education qualification of 10+2 (Army) and 10+2 (Navy) (Physics and Maths for Air Force & Navy). What is the height for the NDA Exam?

Ans. The prescribed NDA height is 157 cm (For the Air Force, it is 162.5 cm). Certain exceptions apply to candidates based on their geographical origin and gender. The minimum height for Gorkhas and candidates from the hills of North-Eastern India, Garhwal, and Kumaon will be 5 cm less than general candidates.

How is the NDA exam physical test?

Ans. Candidates must appear for the SSB interview after passing the NDA written exam. During the interview, all physical standards of the candidates are determined. Three factors determine the overall physical means for Army Officers:

3. Other Physical Standards like Body Mass Index, Waist Hip ratio, Waist Circumference, biochemical metabolic parameters, etc.

All three forces that are Army, Air Force, and Navy, have different ranges and parameters in the physical test. It is mandatory to pass this test to get selected for the NDA. The following are the minor issues that frequently cause candidates to be deemed unsuitable for NDA recruitment. Ear Wax, Piles, Deviated Nasal Septum, Overweight/ Underweight, Hydrocele/ Phimosis, Undersized Chest, Varicocele, Tonsillitis, or Gynaecomastia are examples.

Is swimming compulsory for the NDA Exam?

Ans. Yes, Swimming is mandatory, and all trainees must pass the basic swimming test before the end of the second semester or risk being relegated. The basic swimming test consists of swimming 50 meters (any stroke) followed by three minutes of floating in a full-sleeved shirt and trousers. During the training, trainees must also pass advanced swimming tests, the details of which will be communicated to them upon arrival. The Academy will ensure the 10 m jump and increased distance of swimming proficiency to 1500 meters for the INAC course.

What is the total score of the NDA Exam?

Ans. The NDA exam will be divided into two parts: a written exam and a personality test (SSB interview). The written examination will include two papers: Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT). The Mathematics paper is worth 300 points. The GAT paper is worth 600 points. As a result, the total score for the NDA written exam will be 900. The questions in Mathematics will be drawn from topics covered in the 10+2 level. The GAT paper will include English, General Knowledge, and General Science questions.
