An SBI Probationary Officer will first receive a base salary of Rs. 41,960 (with 4 advanced increments). According to the amended Bipartite Settlement, a probationary officer’s salary is 36,000-1490/7-46430-1740/2-49910-1990/7-63840, with four advance increments. There are three stages to the SBI PO selection procedure. The written tests are given online, and an interview round follows. Exams are structured as follows:

The State Bank of India (SBI) PO Preliminary Examination

The candidates for this online test get one hour to complete the 100-point question paper. Three sections make up the test. The sectional cut-off in the preliminary exam has been eliminated, and candidates will now only be chosen for the next stage based on their overall score in all areas. Selection criteria for the Main Examination: A merit list for each category will be compiled based on the overall Preliminary Exam score. No sectional cut-off will exist. The top candidates on the aforementioned merit list—roughly 10 times the number of openings in each category—will be chosen to take the Main Examination.

The State Bank of India (SBI) PO Mains Exam Pattern

The State Bank of India PO Mains Exam will comprise of Objective & Descriptive Section, which is described below in detail:

  • The objective paper has to be submitted in three hours, and the descriptive paper is to be submitted in thirty minutes.
  • There will be four sections in the objective part, including English Language, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General/Economic/Banking Awareness, and Reasoning & Computer Aptitude.
  • A descriptive paper with two questions will be given.
  • A candidate would lose 0.25 marks for each incorrectly answered question they attempted in the SBI PO Mains Test. No deduction will be imposed in marks if a candidate leaves a question unattempted or blank in the exam.

Descriptive SBI PO Test

The descriptive paper will test your knowledge of the English language and will last 30 minutes and have two questions (Letter Writing & Essay). Candidates who pass the first two phases of the SBI PO test are also subjected to an interview process in addition to the preliminary and main exams.

Interview Process

A candidate who passes the SBI PO 2024 Preliminary and Main Exams will also be invited to a GD-PI session, where they will speak with a panel of selectors about their prior experiences and answer questions about general knowledge and the banking industry.

Call Letter

Candidates who pass the written exam and qualify for the interview round will receive an SBI PO (Probationary Officer) call letter, which is also referred to as an interview letter. The call letter is an important document that enables applicants to participate in the interview round and includes crucial details regarding the interview procedure.

The call letter is often made available on the SBI official website, where applicants can access it by logging in with their registration number, roll number, date of birth, and password. The call letter includes guidelines on how to conduct yourself during the interview and information about the interview’s date, time, and location.

Applicants must bring a valid photo ID and a printed copy of their call letter to the interview location. Candidates cannot attend the interview without the call letter, which should be noted as a key document.

A candidate must complete the interview process to be selected for the SBI PO. The Bank will determine the qualifying marks for this round, and the marks assigned to these rounds are Group Talk – 20 marks, Interview – 30 marks.

Final Selection

The State Bank of India will create a merit list after a candidate has completed Personal Interviews, considering both the candidate’s performance on the Mains Exam and the Interview Round. Final cut-off scores will be announced based on candidates’ scores and the number of open positions. State Bank of India shall provide the Appointment Letter for the position of Probationary Officer to those candidates who meet the cut-off range.

  • Biometric Verification: To ensure a secure and accurate selection process, SBI may capture candidates’ thumb impressions digitally. This helps confirm their identity. If there are any discrepancies during this verification, the candidate’s application may be rejected, and legal action could be taken. Candidates should avoid using ink, henna, chemicals, or any other substances on their hands.
  • Number of Attempts: Each category has a limit on the number of attempts allowed. Once a candidate has used up their chances, they cannot apply again. Note that taking the Preliminary Exam does not count as an attempt, but appearing for the Mains Exam does.

The State Bank of India (SBI) PO Cut-Off

The State Bank of India probationary exam has three phases for recruitment- prelims, mains, and interviews. There are two types of cut-offs – sectional and overall. Sectional cutoff depends on how candidates have performed in each section for the exam, and the overall cutoff is the total cut-off. Candidates must score cut-off, which is the minimum score in both sectional and overall cutoff, to qualify for the exam. The prelim exam is only an initial screening test, mains, and interviews will constitute the marks required for candidates to qualify for the post of probationary officer.
