It originates in the Tibetan Plateau  in China and flows through Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, &  Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before entering Pakistan.

It is known for its powerful currents and for its role in creating the world's largest delta, the Ganges Delta.
