Cholera strikes through contaminated food and water. Prevent it by drinking bottled water, washing hands often, and avoiding raw or undercooked food. Here are some tips to know.

Drink Water

This means bottled or treated water. Avoid untreated tap water, river water, or lake water.

Wash Your Hands

Wash your hands before, during, and after preparing food, after using the toilet, and after changing diapers.

Toilets and Dispose

If you are travelling to an area without toilets, use a latrine or dig a hole far away from water sources.

Cook Food Thoroughly

Seafood, meat, and poultry should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

 Fruits and Vegetables

Always wash fruits, berries and vegetables with clean water before consuming it.

Milk Products

Unpasteurized milk has not been treated to kill bacteria, so boil the milk properly before drinking it.

There is a vaccine available for cholera, it can help. But it is important to follow other prevention tips as well.
