Indian Americans have recently dominated the Scripps National Spelling Bee, with champions in 2022, a historic sweep in 2019 and winners from 2013 to 2018, here are some of them to know.

First-Ever Champion (2014)

Sriram J Hathwar and Ansun Sujoe became the first co-champions in 13 and 14 years.

2015 Champions

Vanya Shivashankar (Texas) wins with "scherenschnitte" and Gokul Venkatachalam (Missouri) wins with "Nunataq".

2016 Co-Champions

Jairam Hathwar (New York) & Nihar Saireddy Janga (Texas) win with the words Feldenkrais and Gesellschaft respectively.

2017 Champion

Ananya Vinay, a 12-year-old Indian-American, triumphs by spelling 'marocain' correctly.

2018 Champion

Karthik Nemmani from Texas wins by spelling "haecceities" and "koinonia".

Rishik Gandhasri, Saketh Sundar, Shruthika Padhy, Sohum Sukhatankar, Abhijay Kodali, Christopher Serrao and Rohan Raja.

Harini Logan wins a spell-off against Vikram Raju, correctly spelling 21 out of 26 words in 90 seconds.
