Foundation and Purpose

Nahargarh Fort was built in 1734  by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II,  the founder of Jaipur, primarily  as a retreat and a defense structure.

Situated on the Aravalli hills, Nahargarh offers a panoramic  view of the city of Jaipur.

Myth of Nahar Singh Bhomia

The fort was named after a prince named Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose spirit allegedly haunted the construction site.

Architectural Significance

The Madhavendra Bhawan palace, built inside the fort, consists of suites for the king and his queens, designed with intricate frescoes and ornate decorations.

Role in Historical Events

Nahargarh Fort played a minimal role in military conflict but was significant during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
