What Are UGC Biannual Admissions?

Indian universities can now admit students twice a year, offering greater flexibility and a second chance to those who miss the first deadline, here are some things to know about it.

Twice the chance

UGC biannual admissions allow universities to admit students  in two intakes each year, in July/August and January/February.

Optional, not mandatory

Universities can choose to adopt this new system based on their capabilities.

Previously online only

UGC Biannual Admissions were first introduced for online and open distance learning (ODL) programs in 2023.

Increasing Enrollment

The aim is to increase India's higher education Gross Enrollment Ratio.

Universities can offer new programs or increase intake in existing ones.

Improved Infrastructure needed

Universities need sufficient faculty and resources to handle  biannual intakes.
